If you are looking for a traditional Greek dish full of rich flavors and comforting aromas, braised beef in tomato sauce is an ideal choice. ✅ Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 800 g beef, cut into chunks

  • 2 large onions, finely chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 4 tbsp olive oil

  • 400 g canned crushed tomatoes

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 cup red wine (preferably dry)

  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Fresh parsley for garnish

 Preparation:

  1. Browning the Beef
    Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef chunks and brown them on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  2. Cooking the Base
    In the same pot, add chopped onions and sauté until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  3. Adding Liquids and Simmering
    Return the beef to the pot. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, and red wine vinegar. Add sugar, bay leaf, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  4. Simmering
    Cover and simmer on low heat for about 2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally and add water if needed.

  5. Serving
    Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley. This dish pairs exceptionally well with mashed potatoes, rice, or fresh bread. Don’t forget to open a glass of our Red Dry Wine Mavropetritis, which complements perfectly the richness and depth of flavors in this dish.
